As a key role within the Honeywell DevOps Tools team, the DevOps Tools Engineer/Specialist is responsible for providing the broader Honeywell software engineering community with the best-in-class software-development tools and associated infrastructure.

In this challenging role, the DevOps Tools Engineer/Specialist has end-to-end ownership and responsibility for the delivery of shared software development tools, applications, and services: starting with the ideation and up to the final implementation through evangelization and continuous improvement afterwards.

The successful candidate will connect both vertically within his/her own practice, serving the software engineering community needs, as well as horizontally across key teams and in collaboration with other Practice Leads, Service Desk team, IT, and Technical Support groups to continuously improve the software tools ecosystem and build aworld class CICD pipeline enabling Honeywell’s 11k+ Software Engineers to deliver securely, safely, and frequently.

* Responsibility *
  • Work closely with the Software Engineering Productivity Lead to establish and maintain the tools strategy, as well as support achieving the team’s milestones.
  • Provide software development tools users with advice, guidelines and support to deploy the standard toolchain components for their projects.
  • Automate infrastructure and application deployments through scripting and configuration management tools.
  • Maintain and improve the current tools ecosystem and infrastructure while ensuring technical debt is kept in check.
  • Define and maintain documents used by the practitioners: quick start guides, reference materials, training modules, FAQs as appropriate.
  • Continuously improve the software engineering toolchain through the introduction of new applications, services, enablers or practices based on new industry trends or user community needs.

You Must Have

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, software engineering, or equivalent. Master’s degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 6 years of practical experience with industry standard tools used during the development & release of software products: build systems (make, ant, maven, etc.), testing frameworks and widely used development languages (C, C++, C#, Java)
  • Experience with configuration management and Infrastructure as Code technologies (e.g., Puppet, Chef, Ansible) or similar tools
  • Significant hands-on knowledge of the Atlassian tools suite (JIRA, Confluence, Bitbucket, Bamboo, etc)
  • Strong background in Linux/Unix system administration.
  • Broad knowledge of virtualization/cloud technologies, stacks, and tools
  • Knowledge of core IT operations and best practices (ITSM) in an always-up, always-available environment.

We Value:

  • Experience with Azure / cloud architectures and resource deployment
  • A practical understanding of scripting and commonly used environments (Python, Perl, Ruby, Bash) and their use for the staging and deployment of multi-tiered applications
  • Strong communication skills and experience in driving change management initiatives.
  • Experience with selecting, deploying, and supporting software development tools.
  • Proven ability to energize people, drive change, and work with global cross functional team.
