The Sustainability Technologies group is looking for a highly qualified AMO (atomic, molecular, and optical) physics Theoretician to apply a deep and broad knowledge base to unique industrial applications. The ideal candidate will have a thorough understanding of atomic and quantum physics, have intimate knowledge of standard laboratory practices and techniques within this field of research, and provide innovative techniques and approaches to advance the state-of-the-art.
20 Define experimental protocols and parameters based on design inputs
20 Translate requirements into architectural, device, and product requirements & create overall systems
20 Implement state-of-the-art techniques
20 Perform trade studies, write research reports, create project cost estimates, & assist with budget
20 Partner with academic research institutions, national laboratories,& commercial entities
YOU MUST HAVE
•U.S. citizenship required in order to obtain and maintain government security clearance
•PhD in Physics or related field with theoretical background in at least one of: atomic/molecular collective phenomena, ion trapping, neutral atom/molecular cooling, quantum optics, quantum information / simulation, Bose-Einstein condensates, or precision atomic measurements
•Demonstrated leadership in a theoretical physics environment (eg at a University, National Lab, or equivalent research entity)
•10 or more years’ relevant experience, including PhD and Postdoctoral experience, including industry or lab appointments
•Formal background in AMO physics, quantum systems, or related field, with a proven track record of developing state of the art theoretical models of quantum systems
•Experience programming in Python, MATLAB, C++, or equivalent
•Deep experience working closely with experimental teams to support laboratory efforts
•Excellent written and oral communication skills, as demonstrated by publication record
•Strong organizational and leadership skills necessary to work with customers and partners
•Strong and active network of professional relationships
