Sr. Hardware Engineer

Purpose of the Job

To join the hardware engineering team, developing electronics and hardware for complex real-time embedded Fire Alarm panel applications globally.

2. Principal Responsibilities

An experienced electronics engineer who can demonstrate his/her ability to develop analogue and digital electronic systems from initial requirements capture through analysis, design, implementation and test.

•Responsible for developing electronic hardware for advanced Fire Detection systems. The role encompasses the whole life-cycle development from requirements capture through the analysis, design and implementation phases to validation and subsequent maintenance.

•Work with Hardware Development Manager, Project managers, hardware team and software team to derive development plans, produce estimates and budgets. Work closely with project managers to ensure that projects are delivered to plan and within budget.

•Close collaboration with other functions like Sourcing, Marketing, Finance, QA and ISC to ensure all functional needs, quality, cost target and producibility

•Make Improvements to the hardware design process and set a high standard for engineering competence by helping to implement Quality procedures, participating in technical reviews and adopting best engineering practices.

•Keep up to date with current engineering practices and new technologies by reading books and publications, examining competitive products and literature, attending training sessions and maintaining contact with outside resources. Making recommendations for new technologies, tools and methods.

Product owners. Project managers, Hardware Engineering colleagues. software engineering colleagues and other technical staff within Honeywell Building Technologies based locally in Leicester and also remotely around Europe and world wide. Participates in R&D Scrum Teams and in high level and cross-functional Honeywell teams

To understand the cost implication of components and tools on project/product.

6.Geographic Scope & Travel Requirements

The position is based in Leicester but occasional travel to sites in UK and abroad may be required.

1.Education Required

Honours degree in Electronics/Physics, or similar subject.

2.Work Experience Required

Several years experience in developing electronic products in a team environment. Knowledge of the complete development life cycle, from requirements through to implementation and test.

3.Technical Skills & Specific Knowledge Required

•Complex digital and analogue circuit design.

•Familiarity with SPICE simulation techniques.

•Familiarity with digital systems, micro-controllers, etc.

•Experience of modern design and collaboration tools like SharePoint, JIRA, Mentor Graphics etc.

•Knowledge and experience of EMC & LV directives.

•Appreciation of embedded software.

•Software development experience would be useful though not essential.

•Good communication skills, verbal and written, both internally and externally.

•Creative in approach and able to work inside company guidelines.

•Self-motivated and able to perform under pressure. Able to meet tight timescales demanded by customers.

•Ability to thrive on taking responsibility and ownership of activities.

•Fully conversant with modern hardware development techniques and used to working in an ISO9000 quality environment.
