This attorney will play a key role in Garrett’s intellectual property legal position, primarily focusing on issues Asia-Pac.He or she will work all facets of intellectual property in the region, including:

- trademark protection (including strategies to expand our trademarks and logos to cover expanding product lines);

- trademark enforcement (with heavy emphasis on anti-counterfeiting activities);

- management of third party investigators and outside counsel for IP investigations and enforcement;

- customs strategies and interaction (to both clear the way for shipment of our products and to best identify infringers);

- close interaction with engineering to identify of inventions and assist with patent filings and maintenance;

- representation of Garrett at professional and governmental lobbying groups;

- product clearance (with emphasis on interpreting the scope and threat associated with Chinese patents);

- contracting with both suppliers and customers (working closely with our A-P General Counsel, and focusing largely on the IP aspects of customer and Supplier contracts;

- litigation management/support;

- IP Training across the A-P region.

This positon will consistently involve dozens of active matters, thus requiring a highly organized and self-motivated individual who is comfortable working with minimal oversight.With experience in the role will come increase autonomy to make decisions and direct A-P strategy and execution. Communication skills also critical as IP strategies, tactics and results must be clearly and concisely communicated to business leadership.

Travel

(10-20%) required.

YOU MUST HAVE

  • Education: Law Degree
  • Significant experience in prosecution and enforcement of trademarks in the region
  • 5+ years of experience in an in-house IP managerial role
  • The ability to juggle many priorities and competing demands
  • Sufficient technical competence / interest to productively converse with engineering
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to handle pressure
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
